Shipstern Bluff is a world renowned big wave surf location which is accessible by boat or via a long walk.
The return walk to the Shipstern Bluff lookout takes around 1.5 hours and the full return walk to the Bluff takes about 4 hours.
As part of the Three Capes Track initiative, the track was upgraded in 2017 with gravel added and walkways constructed over obstacles for an easier walk.
The initial woodland stage of the track takes you to a "T" junction where you turn left for Cape Raoul and right for Shipstern Bluff. Shortly after the junction is the lookout which has stunning views of the Bluff and surrounding area. After the lookout, the track descends down the side of the escarpment and then through ti-tree plain all the way to the Bluff.
